Kawartha Trio

Kawartha Trio

Kawartha Trio

The Kawartha Trio features Judy Loman, harp, her daughter Linda Umbrico, viola and her son-in-law Ross Edwards, clarinet in charming arrangements of classic pieces that they love to play. It all started during family vacation time at Judy’s acreage in the Kawartha Lakes area. They explored repertoire that could be adapted for their unique instrumentation. This includes music from the baroque era to more contemporary works, all which resonate with audiences.

Judy Loman, harp

Judy Loman

Known as one of today’s outstanding harpists, Judy Loman graduated from The Curtis Institute of Music, where she studied with the celebrated harpist, Carlos Salzedo. Upon graduating from Curtis she became Principal Harpist with the Toronto Symphony and was featured as a soloist on many tours. She retired from the symphony in 2002 and continues with a busy career of teaching, concertizing and recording. She has commissioned and given worldwide performances, as well as prize winning recordings of several works for the harp by Canada’s foremost composers.

A dedicated teacher, Judy Loman is a Visiting Artist at The Curtis Institute of Music, Adjunct Professor of harp at the University of Toronto, and instructor of harp at the Glenn Gould School, Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. She has been a featured recitalist and concerto soloist at several American Harp Society Conferences and for the World Harp Congress.

Ms. Loman is a Fellow of the Royal Conservatory of Music and a member of The Order of Canada for her contribution to the Arts in Canada
